Well-known Nollywood actress and media personality, Toke Makinwa has chastised people who are using the current nationwide protest as an excuse to damage and damage the property of their fellow Nigerians.

Remember that on Thursday, August 1, a diverse group of Nigerians staged a statewide protest to draw attention to the extreme poverty that exists in the nation.

There were rumours that some criminals in different regions of the nation stole from the government and private properties during the nonviolent demonstration.

Makinwa responded via her X handle, stating that it was inappropriate.

She noted that the individuals whose properties were being looted are also passing through the same hardship. Toke Makinwa wrote:

“Destroying properties and stealing from your fellow Nigerians who are passing through the same hardship is not right at all. This is very sad,”

Responding to a critic, she clarified that her tweet does not in any way suggest that the crimes were being perpetrated by the protesters. She wrote:

“I did not say the stealing and vandalism was done by protesters, the people who have their things stolen are Nigerians too, going through the same hardship. What have they done to deserve this?”
