The veteran Fuji musician widely known as Love Azeez, Alhaji Abdul Azeez Oladeji, has died at the age of 81.

Adekunle Abiodun, general secretary of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), announced the development in a Facebook post.

Abiodun said the veteran singer passed away on Wednesday evening at his residence in Lagos state following a brief illness.

“So sad that, the oldest FUJI MUSICIAN, ALHAJI LOVE AZEEZ ADIO OLADEJI gave up the ghost this evening after a brief illness @ the ripe age of 81 successful & fulfilled years on the living planet,” he wrote.

“May the Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest, consoles his families, friends, fans, Professional Colleagues & well wishers to bear the irrecovery loss.

“RIPP BABA WA LOVE AZEEZ L’AGEGE.”

In a later update, Abiodun confirmed that Oladeji was buried on Thursday in line with Islamic rites.

Love Azeez was regarded as one of the pioneers who helped shape Fuji music from its early beginnings. The genre, which emerged in Lagos in the 1960s, gained wider prominence through the late Fuji legend Ayinde Barrister, with Love Azeez playing a key role in its growth and cultural acceptance.

Over several decades in the industry, he remained an active and respected figure, earning admiration from fellow Fuji artistes and lovers of traditional Yoruba music.
