Actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has revealed that she lost a movie job because she refused to kiss a film director.
Omoni praised the experience, which happened when she went back to Nigeria after taking a vacation to raise her kids, in an interview on AY Makun’s Glasshouse show.
She disclosed that in exchange for the part, a director suggested she give him a lip-to-lip kiss.
Omoni claimed that even though she was at ease with prearranged kissing sequences, she declined the offer, making it plain that she wouldn’t kiss him until it was required by the script.
She claimed that by turning down the part, she also negated the reason she had originally given for going back to Nigeria.
She said:
“One director asked me to kiss him at an audition, and I couldn’t understand why he would do that. So I was like ‘is this an audition?’ and he was like ‘yeah, I just want to see’ and I said ‘sorry, I can’t do it because I didn’t see any reason I would be kissing you the director when we are not on set.
“And so I said ‘oh no sorry, I can’t.’ Guess what? I didn’t get the role that I travelled for, and I ended up travelling back without playing the role.”
