The singer and activist also known as Charles Oputa, Charly Boy, has spoken about the secret to sustaining his 48-year marriage to Diane Oputa.

In a recent interview, the 76-year-old entertainer said maintaining a successful union requires discipline, forgiveness and, at times, the ability to overlook certain issues.

He also dismissed the idea of a “perfect” marriage, stressing that both partners must be willing to manage daily conflicts to keep their home together.

“All marriages are management. Me and my wife are like Tom and Jerry. There is no day we do not quarrel. There is no day we do not settle the quarrel. We continue with the quarrel. The devil you know is better than the angel you know,” he said.

“This year will be my 48th year in marriage. The thing is boring. Everyday (we are together). You know entertainers and women are give and six. Women are involved in our job. There will always be temptation.

“A man needs to learn discipline. It is when you do not have discipline problem appear for your life. Women has never been a problem for me. I am like my father. Women liked him a lot.”

Charly Boy, known for his outspoken personality, credited his parents’ relationship as a major influence on his understanding of marriage.

He recalled witnessing his parents engage in heated arguments during the day, only to reconcile and share joyful moments together later at night.

“Growing up, I would see my father and my mother fight in the afternoon, but in the night, they would have settled and they would dance together in the sitting room,” he added.

In 2022, the musician revealed that he “was tired” of his marriage to Diane. In December 2018, he also explained what influenced his decision to marry his American partner.
