Well-known Nigerian comedian Carter Efe has said that content producers who film themselves aiding the poor are merely profiting from the misery of others.
Carter Efe revealed how legendary rapper Zlatan Ibile used to discreetly assist him before to his rise to fame, while denouncing the tendency of documenting acts of kindness.
He claimed that when he was still in need, Zlatan gave him clothes and money, but no one knew about it because he didn’t make a video to publicly proclaim his thoughtful gesture.
The internet comic further disclosed that he was once given N1 million by famous blogger Tunde Ednut, who cautioned him against sharing the money on social media or notifying anyone.
According to Carter Efe, he learnt valuable lessons from those experiences and that is why whenever he wants to help anybody, he does not announce it to the public.
He said:
“These content creators who make videos of people they’re helping are just making money off the sufferings of these helpless people. They’re not genuine. When I was nothing, Zlatan used to give me clothes and money. In fact, he gave me everything. He didn’t do a video so the world could see what he was doing.
Tunde Ednut once gave me 1 million naira and warned me not to tell anybody. These things taught me a lot. This is why when I help anybody, I don’t make noise or say anything about it.”
