Popular Twitch streamer and online personality Kai Cenat has arrived in Lagos for the second time, drawing fresh attention to his long-standing promise to build a school in Nigeria.

Cenat touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday, where he was received with a live band performance, quickly generating excitement across social media platforms.

The visit comes almost a year after his initial trip to Nigeria, when he announced a $5 million commitment to construct a school for children in Makoko, the waterfront settlement often referred to as Lagos’ floating slum.

However, the project later faced setbacks due to challenges surrounding land ownership and regulatory clearances in Makoko. Given the area’s distinctive floating layout, the proposed location was eventually shifted to Yaba, a more structurally stable part of Lagos. Despite the change, Cenat has consistently assured that children from Makoko will benefit from free education once the school is completed.

An update on the project was shared during Mafiathon 3, where Cenat revealed that more than $1 million has already been raised. He explained that funds would be deployed in stages and emphasised the importance of sustainability, noting that the focus is on building a lasting institution rather than rushing the process.

His return has sparked renewed enthusiasm among Nigerian supporters, many of whom believe the visit could mark a turning point for the initiative. Still, some critics online remain cautious, urging tangible progress on the ground and more clearly defined timelines.

Cenat’s trip also coincides with increasing interest in Nigeria from international streamers. Roughly two weeks earlier, American streamer IShowSpeed visited the country, attracting huge crowds and viral attention during his stay in Lagos and interactions with fans and local content creators. The consecutive visits have further underscored Nigeria’s growing influence in global digital culture.

With Cenat now back in Lagos, public focus has once again shifted to whether this visit will result in concrete action toward delivering on one of his most ambitious commitments.
