The son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Kunle Kuti, has shared his thoughts on the widely discussed fallout between singer Wizkid and his brother, Seun Kuti.

The disagreement started weeks ago after Seun criticised Wizkid’s fanbase for what he described as disrespectful comparisons between the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner and the Afrobeat icon.

Seun argued that such comparisons diminish his father’s legacy.

The situation later intensified when Wizkid responded with a series of posts containing insults directed at Seun, during which he also proclaimed himself greater than Fela.

The exchange quickly sparked intense conversations on social media, polarising fans and commentators.

Speaking on a recent episode of TheCable’s ‘Our Two Kobo’ podcast, Kunle said he does not support any comparison between Fela and Wizkid, stressing that both artistes operate in entirely different spaces.

“I do not want anybody to compare them, it is two different things,” he said.

Kunle admitted that the controversy left him “heartbroken”, explaining that he deeply admires Wizkid and regards him highly.

He further revealed that the singer is the only artiste he has ever made a conscious effort to meet.

“That is what I am saying, I was heartbroken. What is this going on? Wizkid is the only artiste that I have kind of begged people that I want to meet in my life,” he said.

Kunle added that he had even appealed to Sunday Are to help facilitate a meeting, noting how much he loves Wizkid, particularly because of the tribute the singer paid to Fela.

“Even Sunday Are; I have begged him that I want to meet this guy, to show you how much I love him. For the fact that he has Fela’s tattoo. We his kids do not even have his tattoo on our bodies.”
