President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi.

Sunday Ndidi was said to have lost his life in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, close to Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the incident as tragic and conveyed his sympathy to the footballer and his family.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer.

“There is no doubt that Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration,” the President said.

Tinubu also prayed for God’s comfort for the Ndidi family and asked for eternal rest for the departed soul.

NEWSCLICKNG Online had earlier reported that the retired military officer died after being involved in a road crash in Umunede and was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Agbor.

Ndidi’s club, Leicester City, also confirmed the development on Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said in a statement.
