Nigerian gospel musician, Mercy Chinwo and her husband Blessed Uzochikwa have established the Mercyisblessed Foundation, which offers full scholarships to 100 University of Calabar (UNICAL) students.

On Friday, July 12, 2024, the pair made the announcement in front of a group of students while on a tour of the campus.

The couple revealed in a statement that the scholarship covers the entire cost of tuition as well as additional benefits that help deserving and intelligent university students study steadily.

“The criteria for selection and other modalities to shortlist eligible candidates would be communicated through appropriate channels. The scholarship is with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

This is not the first philanthropic act from pastor Uzochikwa and Chinwo in 2024.

In support of their foundation and their son Charis, the couple gave 50 undergraduate students at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) scholarships in April.

The hitmaker of “You Do This One” previously disclosed that the scholarship is a gesture of gratitude to the community that raised her.

“Port Harcourt is home to me any day. The memories are fresh of a city where I dared to dream and hope for a purposeful life. I thank the Lord for His work in me and through me so far. The scholarship is to inspire students that their dreams and ambitions are valid and not to give up because there is a God who has ‘Excess Love’, ” she said.

The singer recently unveiled a 12-track album ‘Overwhelming Victory’, which she recorded while she was pregnant.

Chinwo is also credited for hit projects like ‘Elevated’, ‘Wonder’, and ‘Confidence’, among others.
