[Movie Review] Six Nollywood, Hollywood movies to see this weekend

Brotherhood

The movie stars Falz and Tobi Bakre as twin brothers on opposite sides of the law.

“Brotherhood” promises adrenaline-fueled action sequences like never seen before in Nollywood. And an emotionally-grounded story exploring familiar themes like the bonds of family, betrayal, and love.

At the start of the trailer, we see a SWAT vehicle driving towards what appears to be an armed robbery mission. Falz leads the team as a police officer and his brother Tobi as a criminal.

Inside Life

The film, which stars Samuel Perry (Broda Shaggi), Nedu ‘Wazobia’, Wole Ojo, and Hafiz ‘Saka’ Oyetoro, tells the story of a groom-to-be who is wrongfully incarcerated a few days before his wedding. Getting out of jail on time isn’t enough; he must also learn to withstand the harsh surroundings and escape unscathed.

Tina Mba, Belinda Effah, Funsho Adeolu, Romeo WJ, and Koloman Prosper also feature in “Inside Life”, which is directed by Tope Adebayo.

Symphony (The Movie)

The movie, Symphony focuses on music and entertainment to highlight the many societal issues bedevilling African youths. The film also features a music album with original compositions recorded by some of the film’s cast members.

Along with D’banj and Tanasha, the film also stars Jackie Appiah, Iya Awero, Mr Latin, Kalu Ikeagwu, Efa Iwara, Scarlet Gomez, Daniel Abua, Doris Okorie and radio presenter Ogundairo Seun (aka Real Skillz) among others.

Obara ‘M (My Blood)

The movie is directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by Dare Olaitan.

“Obara M”, a musical film which  tells a riveting story of family, love and music is the ideal movie for the holidays.

The official synopsis reads, “After her estranged father’s death, Oluchi, an up-and-coming musician is forced to confront her true self and her past mistakes. She reconnects with her daughter who she abandoned at a young age through their love for music. However, the echoes from the past, greed and bad decisions, spring from every corner, threatening to bring them down.”

It stars Nancy Isime, Nkem Owoh, Onyeka Onwenu, Deyemi Okanlawon, Ninalowo Bolanle, Bolaji Ogunmola, Ikponmwosa Gold, Sydney Talker, Buchi, The Cavemen, Darasimi Nadi, and other Nollywood actors.

The Invitation

The Invitation is a 2022 American horror thriller film directed by Jessica M. Thompson, written by Blair Butler, and produced by Emile Gladstone. The film stars Nathalie Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty. Inspired by the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, the film follows a young woman who, after her mother’s death, meets long lost-family members for the first time, only to discover the dark secrets they carry with them.

Beast

Beast is a 2022 American survival thriller film directed by Baltasar Kormákur from a screenplay by Ryan Engle, based on a story by Jaime Primak Sullivan. The film stars Idris Elba, Iyana Halley, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Sharlto Copley. It follows a widowed father and his two teenage daughters who visit a South African game reserve, but must fight to survive when they are stalked and attacked by a ferocious, rogue, bloodthirsty lion.
