Mum of TikToker begs Sunday Igboho for forgiveness after backlash

The mother of TikToker Baba Alado has appealed to Sunday Igboho for forgiveness following her son’s public criticism of the Yoruba Nation activist.

In an emotional video, she pleaded with Igboho to regard her son as a child who made a mistake, revealing that she raised him through bricklaying while his father is now elderly and frail.

Baba Alado and his colleague Funny Thinker, known for their Yoruba-language comedy skits centred on life in Ibadan, had criticised Igboho over his recent political comments.

The controversy began after Igboho, in a widely shared video, endorsed Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and warned that opposition figures such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar would not be welcome in Yoruba-speaking states.

“For second term. Beyond 2027, 100 percent. Do not bring Aiku or Obi here. After eight years, we will beg God for Baba to use extra two years. If you think you are confident bring Obi or Atiku here,” he said.

The remarks drew criticism from Baba Alado and Funny Thinker, who described the comments as “unconstitutional”.

Funny Thinker argued that no individual has the authority to dictate Nigeria’s political space, noting that citizens have the constitutional right to campaign anywhere in the country.

Tensions escalated after a purported voice note attributed to Igboho surfaced online, allegedly instructing that the two TikTokers be brought to his residence in Ibadan.

“Adebas, Alado and Funny Thinker must be brought to my house in Ibadan. If not, I do not know what can happen,” Igboho reportedly said.

Reacting to the development, Funny Thinker maintained that he had done nothing wrong, while Baba Alado initially rejected any form of intimidation.

“I did not offend you. That voice note is a threat,” he said.

“Whatever is happening now must be brought to the public. I do not expect this from you. I have a wife and a child. I have urged the person that offended you to beg you, and he did so.”

However, Baba Alado later softened his stance, issuing a public apology and appealing to Igboho for understanding.

In a follow-up video, his mother also appealed directly to the activist, asking for mercy and attributing her son’s actions to external influence.

“He has only you. Please forgive him. I raised him through bricklaying. His father is aged. I beg you in the name of God,” she said.
