Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has disclosed that her children were subjected to death threats after a social media post she shared during the #EndSARS protests in 2020.

The actress spoke about the experience in a recent interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin Minds, recounting how a comment she made online was misinterpreted and sparked a wave of backlash that spilled over to her family.

The #EndSARS protests, which erupted in October 2020, saw thousands of young Nigerians protest against police brutality and call for the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The demonstrations took a tragic turn on October 20, when security operatives opened fire on protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.

Following the incident, Omotola made an online post questioning whether deaths had been officially confirmed or if reports had been exaggerated.

The post, which was later deleted, drew heavy criticism, with many Nigerians accusing her of undermining a national tragedy.

Revisiting the episode, the actress explained that she was not disputing the incident but genuinely seeking clarification.

She stressed that she was deeply involved in the movement, participating physically in protests and engaging in international advocacy.

“Especially when EndSars happened with all the backlash. A lot of what I said was misunderstood. I have received death threats many times before. I am used to it,” she said.

“I also worked with the Amnesty International. My husband was flying for Shell. And I went to protest against Shell in London.

“I have never seen anything like EndSars. It was intense. The attack was very personal. My kids started getting death threats. It was weird because I was on the streets for #EndSARS. I was doing international advocacy.”

Omotola has been married to her husband, Matthew Ekeinde, since 1996, and their marriage is blessed with four children.
