‘My parents were expecting baby boy,’ Nollywood Actress recounts birth story as she marks 34th birthday
Nollywood actress Bukunmi Oluwasina has shared her birth story, describing how her parents were taken aback when their daughter arrived as a girl instead of the boy they had anticipated.
Oluwasina, who turns 34 today, jokingly called herself a “joke” from the beginning, noting that she has always kept her personal affairs private.
Bukunmi wrote in a lengthy post that 34 years ago on her birthday, her mother was in labour and en route to the hospital carrying a bag containing supplies for the baby and clothes for men because she had been informed she was expecting a boy
Her father, for his part, was planning how to arrange for the cow he would kill for her naming ceremony, as he expected to have a son.
She added that she has always led a solitary existence, even in the womb of her mother.
The single mother took some time to mourn her father, noting that he would not be phoning to wish her a happy birthday.
She wrote:
“So, on this day, many years ago, around this time, history has it that my mum was already in labour. On her way to the hospital, with a bag filled with baby items and clothes she had bought for her incoming baby boy, as she had been told.
“My dad was already making plans on how to arrange for the cow he would kill for naming. Man couldn’t wait to meet his first son.
“Ladīes and gentlemen, I have been a joke from day one. O shock won bakan.
“Feel free to say, na for inside belle I don dey live my private life. Yeah, it’s a few hours to my day. Dad, I know you won’t be calling again tonight as usual.
I would have loved to, however, just be saying amen to your past prayers from you, for my past birthdays in my head, But all you have prayed for, for me then are already answered.“So, all I have got to say now, is thank you Lord for all that you have done that I know and the ones I do not”.
