Nigerian actor Tobi Makinde has dismissed speculation of a strained relationship between him and filmmaker Funke Akindele, saying there is no disagreement between them.

Speaking in an interview with BBC, Makinde addressed claims that their bond had deteriorated, stressing that the rumours were unfounded.

“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke, and I’m not aware of any fallout,” he said.

He noted that social media often creates false narratives and pushes stories that do not reflect reality.

“Social media likes to construct stories. They write their own script and then start looking for people to fit into the roles,” he added.

Makinde also made it clear that his connection with Akindele goes beyond online assumptions.

“Our relationship no start from social media and no be for social media e go end,” he said in pidgin English.

He explained that as people grow and move into new stages of life, some relationships may seem distant, even when they remain intact.

“Sometimes, as you grow and move from one level to another, some relationships may look like they are lost in transit, but that’s really not the case,” Makinde explained.

The rumours gained traction after Akindele was absent from Makinde’s wedding, but the actor said he understood she had other commitments on the day.

Makinde has featured in several of Akindele’s productions, including Jenifa’s Diary, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and A Tribe Called Judah.
