Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire has broken her silence on the ongoing speculation about her marriage to actor Freddie Leonard.
In a series of recent social media posts, the actress confirmed that she is pursuing a divorce and called on her husband to appear in court for the ongoing proceedings.
Her posts came after photos surfaced showing Freddie Leonard in the company of another woman. Peggy urged him to attend a customary court hearing scheduled for June 23.
Speaking on the status of the case, the actress alleged that her husband had earlier challenged the claims she made against him.
She wrote, “Married woman o, shameless lots, please don’t avoid coming to customary court June 23rd for the second time.
“You said you wanted a divorce, yet you didn’t show up when you were served, please don’t avoid customary court for the 2nd time on June 23rd because I’m coming with receipts & let’s make this Divorce done & dusted. So both of you can finally be together.”
The Nollywood star further alleged infidelity, “So called traditional Igbo man with another Igbo man’s wife with 4 children, you ran to a blogger that I was lying but when you were served & saw details of my petition, you knew I had seen 1 out of many, yet refused to show up in court but sent your lawyer.”
This latest development comes after a series of cryptic social media posts by the actress, in which she appeared to reflect on experiences involving infidelity in a marriage.
In one of the posts, she recounted a scenario about discovering that a partner was allegedly involved with a married woman. She wrote, “What will you do if you find out that the man you are dating is sleeping with a married woman with kids? You asked him about it but he totally denies it saying they are just friends and you completely believed him. You eventually got married to him. Your husband always hypes the married woman in public but privately your husband tells you how local this his “friend” is just to manipulate you so you will not suspect a thing.”
She continued, detailing the nature of the alleged betrayal,”But one day as god will have it, you got evidence and found out your husband and the said lady were never just friends, he has been sleeping with the married woman. They constantly meet up either in his apartment when he goes to work, or in a hotel. She also leaves her husband’s house to go meet him in his apartment & in hotels. Yet this same man judges and castigates single girls who sleep with married men.
Not long after getting married, you noticed that he is now comparing you to his married sidechick, you find out that he even visits her at home unknowing to her husband. On some occasions, he visits while her husband is around because the married sidechick’s husband also believes your husband is “just friends” with his wife.”
“This married sidechick even attended your wedding and you had no problem with it because you thought they were just friends. But now you have evidence of both of them meeting up in hotels doing stuff and your so called husband telling her how much he misses her while he is still married to you. Would you remain married to such man?”
Peggy Ovire and Freddie Leonard are both well-known figures in Nollywood, having established successful acting careers before getting married. Their union attracted significant public interest and was widely celebrated by fans and colleagues alike.
However, speculation about trouble in their marriage began to surface just months after their wedding. Despite the persistent rumours, neither party publicly addressed the reports until now.
Peggy’s recent statements mark the first time either of them has spoken openly about the challenges in their marriage. As of the time of filing this report, Freddie Leonard has yet to respond to the allegations levelled against him.
