US-based Nigerian rapper Morachi has criticised some of Alexx Ekubo’s close associates for allegedly remaining silent about the actor’s cancer battle while he was alive.

Ekubo reportedly died on Monday after battling cancer privately for a long period. His family said he passed away due to complications arising from “advanced metastatic kidney cancer”.

Metastatic kidney cancer, also known as stage 4 kidney cancer, occurs when cancer spreads from the kidney to other parts of the body, including the lungs, bones, liver or brain.

In a viral video, Morachi questioned why some of Ekubo’s friends, including IK Ogbonna and Yomi Casual, did not publicly raise awareness about his condition.

According to the rapper, even if the late actor preferred to keep his illness private, his close associates could still have sought help discreetly “in such a way that they can save their friend”.

Morachi said many people are now quick to say “rest in peace” instead of asking difficult questions about why no one spoke out earlier.

“It’s easier for us to say ‘rest in peace’ Alexx Ekubo rather than doing critical thinking; ask critical questions. Questions like, ‘How come this guy had cancer and Yomi Casual and IK Ogbonna did not even say anything?’” he said.

“Even if Alex Ekubo said ’Oh, I don’t want anyone to pity me’, they would still go ahead and bring it to the public in such a way that they can save their friend.

“But nobody said anything and all of a sudden everyone is saying ‘rest in peace’.

“I know that Alex was close to Uti Nwachukwu at some point in time but I don’t know what happened to that relationship…. but Yomi Casual and IK Ogbonna, how come you guys don’t know anything?”
