The remains of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial.

Family members, colleagues and residents gathered in Ilaro to receive the late actor’s remains as preparations for his final rites commenced.

Veteran actors Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko were among the Nollywood stars who travelled to the town to honour their late colleague. Actress Ireti Osayemi was also present, with videos of her arrival shared on social media.

The town was filled with grief as mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the actor, whose death has left the Yoruba film industry in mourning.

Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, following a battle with stage-four cancer.

His death occurred days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for urgent medical assistance, disclosing that their father was battling the advanced stage of the disease.

The family had sought further medical treatment after doctors reportedly informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.

According to the burial arrangements, Hassan’s remains were taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony was scheduled to take place at the Pavilion on Monday before his interment.

Hassan, who hailed from Ilaro, was one of the leading figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades across film and television.
