Content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has revealed that the wedding ceremony which recently went viral online was staged as a publicity stunt and social experiment.
Videos showing GehGeh and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire at what appeared to be a wedding ceremony circulated widely over the weekend, leading many to believe the outspoken influencer had secretly gotten married.
The videos also sparked criticism from fans and fellow content creators, who accused him of contradicting his long-standing views on relationships and marriage. Even members of his family reportedly questioned why they were not invited to the supposed ceremony.
Speaking in an interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh dismissed the speculation, explaining that the event was never intended to be an actual wedding.
“We organised everything as a normal promo. Apart from the fact that we deliberately planned it, I also wanted to observe the public’s reactions,” he said in Pidgin English.
He added that the stunt was designed to address what he described as widespread misconceptions about the teachings of his “GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University.”
According to him, many people have wrongly concluded that he advises men never to marry.
“People keep saying GehGeh told them not to get married, but now GehGeh has gone and married. That is not what I teach,” he said.
GehGeh maintained that he has never opposed marriage itself, insisting that he only advocates polygamy over monogamy.
“I never spoke against marriage. What I have always said is that if you must marry, choose polygamy because it protects a man’s heart from heartbreak,” he stated.
Explaining his position further, he argued that having multiple wives makes it more difficult for any one partner to manipulate a man emotionally.
“When a man has different wives, it becomes difficult for one woman to control or manipulate him. That was the way our forefathers lived, and that is the core principle of my university,” he added.
His clarification comes days after the viral wedding videos generated widespread debate across social media, with many questioning whether he had abandoned the relationship philosophy that has become a defining part of his online persona.
