Why artists go broke – DJ Neptune

Popular Nigerian Disc Jockey, DJ Neptune has provided insights into the reasons why some successful but financially struggling Nigerian artists struggle.

He talked on the effects of artists’ careless spending during their prime years and their lack of proper financial planning during an interview with the Zero Conditions Podcast.

DJ Neptune brought attention to the fact that a lot of artists don’t realise that stardom is frequently fleeting, which causes them to spend lavishly without thinking about the future.

He shared an example:

“Artists feel fame is forever; that’s why some of them, while at their peak, don’t save their money; they don’t invest. I was with somebody the other day, and the person was saying these artists collect advance payments and then go buy a Benz. Is that not your future you’re driving?”

After giving this statement some thought, he called it “deep” and a wake-up call for those in the music business. In order to establish long-term stability, DJ Neptune advised musicians to invest in assets or side ventures. He also stressed the significance of making wise financial decisions. Because so few artists are able to support their professions for longer than five or 10 years, he pointed out that financial planning is even more important.

“That’s why I tell some of my colleagues to invest your money while you are on top. If it’s properties you want to do, just have a side income,” he advised.

DJ Neptune concluded by reminding artists that as they grow older, their fan base might shift, and if they don’t adapt or plan, they could face financial difficulties later in life.
