Why I don’t interfere in my son’s family – Omoni Oboli

Nigerian director and actress Omoni Oboli spoke with Ifedayo Agoro on the Dear Ife show about setting limits in her son’s marriage.

She disclosed that, despite her concerns, she refrains from interfering and values her daughter-in-law’s independence.

Oboli underlined how crucial it is to acknowledge her son’s new family as distinct from her own.

According to her, she respects her daughter-in-law’s autonomy and avoids interference in their marital decisions.

“There’s been a few times when my son has come to meet me to say, ‘Mum, Marelle does not like that’ and I have to catch myself back and say ‘Oh, I didn’t mean it that way.’ And it’s okay. So, the fact that your child cannot come to you to say ‘my wife doesn’t like this’, that’s a problem in itself.

“I think, first things first, people need to understand and realise that this is now another family. Yes, they are still a part of your family but they now have their own family,” she argued.

Recall that, Omoni Oboli made a post on social media to announce her ecstatic news of becoming a grandmother.

Omoni Oboli announced on her official Instagram page late on August 12, 2024, that her son Tobe and his wife Marie had welcomed a newborn daughter into their family.

Only a few months have passed since Tobe and Marie’s March 2024 wedding. The couple’s baby-bump images had previously made their fans happy.

In her Instagram post, Omoni Oboli expressed her overwhelming joy and gratitude, she wrote:

“Our hearts are filled with gratitude and joy 💝💝💝 We never knew we could love a tiny human this much 😍
