Media personality Daddy Freeze has argued that religion is holding back Nigeria’s progress, questioning its impact on the country’s development.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he pointed out that although Nigeria is widely regarded as a deeply religious nation, it continues to struggle across key development indicators.
He cited Japan as a contrast, noting that the country enjoys a high standard of living despite having a largely non-religious population.
Freeze also drew attention to Nigeria’s low life expectancy, saying recent 2026 figures put the average at just 54 years.
Expressing concern over the gap between widespread religious devotion and poor living conditions, he said Nigerians contribute more in tithes than taxes, yet there is little to show in terms of national progress.
“How is religion working for us?” he asked.
“My problem with religion is – it has no results. Where is the prosperity? Where is the love? You say God loves us because we are religious, so how come the Japanese are the ones enjoying their own heaven on earth? They are developed.
“We don’t have anything, but we have this ‘God that favours us.’ However, when we truly list the things that we say favour is – prosperity, health… Did you know Nigeria has the shortest life expectancy in the world, according to the 2026 statistics -54 years?
“We pay more tithes than taxes in this country”, Daddy Freeze expressed.
