You’re not qualified for second term, popular singer tells Tinubu

Controversial singer Speed Darlington has urged President Bola Tinubu not to contest for a second term, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship across the country.

In a recent Instagram video, the 42-year-old artiste criticised Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the president has failed to tackle Nigeria’s growing economic and security challenges.

Darlington also faulted the removal of fuel subsidy in 2023, claiming the decision gave traders and business owners justification to massively increase prices.

“Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, you are concerned about becoming the next president of Nigeria. But you are not qualified to be president again,” he said.

“From your first round, we know your second round is going to be hellfire. You entered the office, and the first thing you did was remove the subsidy, knowing very well that everything about Nigerian life is tied to petroleum.

“My fellow Igbo people, Hausa, Yoruba and other tribes in between are looking for different reasons to raise prices, and you gave them a 1000 per cent reason to raise prices.”

The singer accused merchants of exploiting the subsidy removal to inflate the cost of goods and services.

“Nigerians who are naturally greedy, now that you have removed the subsidy. Now, all the merchants in the country have skyrocketing prices. Merchants looking for a perfect excuse now have one,” he added.

Darlington further questioned Tinubu’s suitability for another term in office.

“Tell me what qualifies you to be president, round two,” he said.
