In a record-setting achievement, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2 has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office in just 17 days, making it the fastest animated film to reach the milestone.

The widely celebrated sequel is now the quickest animated and PG-rated movie to hit the billion-dollar benchmark, becoming the second film of 2025 — after Disney’s Lilo & Stitch — to achieve the feat.

The success continues Disney’s run of blockbuster releases, following Moana 2 last year, and brings the studio’s total number of billion-dollar films since 2013 to five: Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana 2, the original Zootopia, and now Zootopia 2.

How much is Zootopia 2’s box office revenue?
Over the weekend, Zootopia 2 earned $232.7 million in North America and $753.4 million internationally. Reacting to the achievement, Jared Bush, chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios, praised the milestone and highlighted the film’s global appeal.

The movie’s performance in China stood out, with nearly $450 million in box office returns, setting a new record as the highest-grossing non-local animated film within five days of release.

The feat also reflects a broader shift at the domestic box office in 2025, where PG-rated family films have outpaced PG-13 and R-rated titles, generating a combined $2.7 billion in the U.S. and Canada.

The strong showing further underscores the growing influence of younger audiences in driving cinema attendance, a key factor behind the remarkable box office run of Zootopia 2.
