Yobe Police Command on Tuesday in Damaturu said it has joined hands with other stakeholders in the state to ensure peaceful conduct of general elections in 2019.

The Police Commissioner, Abdulmalik Sunmonu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

“The Yobe state police command holds meetings with INEC officials on regular basis and we invite party officials as well.

“We have been educating them and enjoin them to always play by the rules of the game.

“And so far there is no any issue. People are conducting themselves very well and things have been in order.

“Nevertheless, the command is very much at alert in case of any eventuality’’, he added.

While responding to an allegation that policemen were being used for election malpractices during elections, Sunmonu said “Police are experienced organisation.

“We have zero tolerance for election malpractice on our personnel.

“That is why we train our personnel and provide them with necessary materials that have to do with election policing.

“So every policeman is trained to know what to do and what not to do during election.

“However, whoever is found wanting before, during and after election with any election related malpractice, will face the law according to its action” the commissioner said.

He further called on the general public to be acquainted with the provisions of the electoral laws for compliance.

He urged the people to know the appropriate channels to report any misconduct of either the policeman or any other person during the election time.
