Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Olawarotimi Akeredolu has urged youths in the state to embrace agriculture saying 90 per cent of those engaged by the state and taken to farms ended up running away.

The governor made the appeal on Tuesday at the venue of a lecture to mark the 19th anniversary of unbroken years of democracy in the country’ held at the state event centre DOME.

According to Gov. Akeredolu, the state cannot afford to be spending about 90 per cent of its allocation on salary payment alone, reason why the youths must embrace agriculture because they have to look for other ways of getting themselves employed adding that the state is building entrepreneurs in agriculture through the support of the CBN.

He added that they must be hardworking and dedicated to work because nothing will come to them on a platter of gold.

He warned that those who expect him to donate okada to them as a means of empowerment are only wasting time because according to him “I can’t give okada to my son”

He noted that the Burari leadership in Nigeria has impacted positively on the nation.

“All of us must work together to maintain the unity of the country promising that as for him he will fight for one Nigeria till he dies”.

“My first son is married to someone from the east, the second is married to someone from delta, so what do I do?” The governor himself is married to someone from the east.

He said that the democracy that we are enjoying today in the country came through the sacrifice of some people especially the late Aare Ona kakanfo of Yorubalnd chief MKO Abiola and others who laid down their lives.

“This is the longest period of democracy as we celebrate 19 unbroken years and the celebration is very necessary”, he added.
