Buhari arrives Benue, meets stakeholders

The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived Makurdi, the Benue State capital, to meet with the Governor Samuel Ortom, and stakeholders.

The President arrived at the Makurdi Airport at exactly 10:43 am on Monday morning.

He will head to the Government House, where the stakeholders are already waiting to meet with him.

This is the President’s first visit to the state since the New Year killings which claimed the lives of over 70 people.

He was earlier scheduled to visit the Tor-Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, visits the Exercise Cat Race Camp and also meet IDPs in Gbajimba, Guma LGA headquarters but will unfortunately not be able to make other visits asides the meeting with stakeholders.

The President had last week visited Taraba State, one of the hotbeds of the herdsmen-farmers crisis which has left scores dead and displaced hundreds.

The President who was in the northeastern state to commiserate with the people over the recent killings there described the attacks and bloodshed as unfortunate.

Noting that that collective effort is required for peace and security, President Buhari appealed to all Nigerians the victims of the attacks get justice through the identification and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku who received the President assured him that the state government and the traditional institution would be mobilised to work together to ensure that the plans of the government to protect lives and property is actualised.

Apart from Taraba and Benue, he is also expected to visit Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states where cases of terror attacks and clashes have been recorded.
