Exclusive: Osun 2018: 31 APC Local Government Party Chairmen Reject Oyetola
These are not the best of times for Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.
Oyetola is the current Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
He is among the top gubernatorial contenders striving to succeed the current Governor and has been visible of late moving from one zone to the other.
His ambition, according to reliable sources who confided in www.newsclickng.com to emerge the candidate of APC in Osun allegedly suffered a huge setback as all the party’s local government Chairmen have decided to work against his emergence in the party primary fixed for 17, July in Osogbo.
Newsclickng.com gathered that at a meeting summoned by the State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Mr Kolapo Alimi purposely convened to persuade the Chairmen to work for the emergence of the Chief of Staff, “Alimi made it very clear that Oyetola is the anointed candidate of Governor Rauf Aregbesola”, a source who attended the meeting volunteered.
The meeting, sources who attended further informed newsclickng.com that it held in the commissioner office at the state government secretariat. “It was tension soaked as the two parties exchanged hot words and the chairmen were not served even ordinary water”.
The chairmen reportedly told the commissioner to report back to his principal that Oyetola’s ambition has already fractured the unity of the party and if he is imposed on the party as the its candidate, APC may not win the gubernatorial election.
Oyetola, who hails from Iragbiji, a town in Boripe Local Government area under Osun Central Senatorial district, is widely viewed as Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidate that he is allegedly hell bent on foisting on the party in Osun for the September 22 gubernatorial polls.
