Gov. Abubakar urges outgoing corps members to embrace entrepreneurship

Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar on Thursday, urged the outgoing corps members to ensure they engage in entrepreneurial skills for self reliance and become employers of labour.

The governor gave the advice during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of 1,445 NYSC 2017 batch A, Stream One members at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Square, Bauchi.

The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports, Ibrahim Saleh,

Abubakar, who reiterated that ‘white-collar jobs’ were no longer available, also urged the youth to set up small scale businesses in line with skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development training and experience they acquired during their one year service.

Abubakar, however, commended the outgoing corps members for contributing to the development of the state, noting that their evaluation and assessment records indicated that most of them had been of good conduct during the year.

The State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Afolayan James, said four outstanding Corps members: Ayodele Olubisaye, Buhari Isa, Precious Emmanuel and Mercy Awoshi, who had distinguished service in the state were present to the state government for state award.

He also said the scheme presented certificates of commendation to three others and testimonials to 20 members.

James said the awardees did not only work in different organisations but also executed numerous community development projects and programmes both at group and individual levels.

“Their contributions range from construction work, infrastructure improvement, environmental sanitation, educational and social programmes and aggressive awareness campaign on reproductive health, HIV and AIDS and sustainable development goals, among others,” he said.

The NYSC boss in the state, however, revealed that six corps members in the state had have their service year extended for flouting the provision of the scheme bye laws.
