Governor of Ogun, Prince Dapo Abiodun declares that Saturdays and Sundays are now opened for activities and movement around the state.

This was made known by the governor in a release at the early hours of Friday, August 14.

The weekend lock down has generated controversy in the state, especially as residents questioned the rationale behind closing Saturdays and Sundays for fear of Covid-19 while the rest of the weekdays were opened for transactions.

It was questioned whether Covid-19 could only be contacted on weekends only.

Meanwhile, in his words, Governor Abiodun also revealed that worship centres including Mosques and Churches can now open for Fridays and Sunday services, though under strict safety protocols.

The Governor said opening worship centres was a decision jointly made by the committee set up to develop guidelines for reopening of the religious centres.

“The Committee included the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); the League of Imams and Alfas and Government representatives.

Religious centres are mandated to end all services within 90 minutes, wear face masks, adequate provision of running water; decontaminate environment, provide alcohol-based sanitiser, and engage qualified trained personnels to check temperature of worshippers with infrared thermometer before allowing them to enter worship centres; among other strict protocols.

He further vowed to clamp down on violators of any of the given guidelines.

“If perchance we discover that any of our religious centre is not complying or adhering to the laid down protocols, we will not hesitate to close down the centre”. The Governor said.

In the same line, the Junior Secondary School Students in class three have been ordered to resume school as from Monday 17th of August 2020.

The Students who are to prepare for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be able to practice revision lessons for the coming examinations.
