JUST IN: Senate rejects Onochie’s nomination as INEC Commissioner
The Senate has overwhelming rejected the nomination of Lauretta Onochie, Senior Special Assistant on Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Onochie was pronounced rejected on Tuesday during plenary following the opposition of Nigerians to Buhari’s nominee.
The decision of the lawmakers was sequel to the report of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission, chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya, which explained that the nomination of Onochie contravenes Federal Character Commission.
Also, the Senate also stepped down nomination of Prof. Sani Adamu as the INEC Commissioner.
The Committee will report back on Prof. Adamu in two weeks time.
