The Nigerian Air Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Ibadan on Information and Communications Technology and weapons manufacture.

At a meeting  with the management of the university, the Chief of Standards and Evaluation, NAF Headquarters, Air Vice-Marshal John Baba,  said the air force  was ready to ensure the success of the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed with the institution.

Baba listed the areas of collaboration to include  research and development in aircraft engineering, automation, Information and Communications Technology and making of explosives.

He said the collaboration would enhance the capacity of the Nigerian Air Force to perform well.

He said the partnership  would  also help the air force  not to rely too much on  imported  weapons and be able to discharge its responsibilities effectively to the country and be self-sustaining.

Baba said, “We expect that by the end of our research and development, the  Nigerian Air Force should be able to sustain its operations without getting any instructions on weapon usage from other countries or any hindrance to the  importation of certain weapons.’’

The  Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership, UI, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo,  expressed her delight at the partnership.

She said,  “We expect that in the next two years, we should be able to show what we have achieved as a result of this collaboration.

“The essence of the collaboration is that we should be able to proffer outstanding quality  solutions to some of the problems from our laboratory.’’

Adeyemo said Nigeria would benefit a lot as a result of the collaboration because the solutions would be home-grown.

She said the solutions to be proffered in the collaboration would be enduring and sustaining to the problems confronting Nigeria as a country.
