Paul Usoro emerges new NBA President
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Paul Usoro, has been elected President of the Nigeria Bar Association.
Usoro polled 4,509 votes to defeat his other contenders, Okafor Obi, and Ernest Ojuwkwu, who got 4, 423 as well as 3, 313 votes in the just concluded election.
One of the candidates, Mr Ojukwu, has already condemned the election saying it was characterised by fraud.
The NBA election, heralded with controversies surrounding the technology company, Chams Plc, employed for the conduct of the exercise, was held on August 19 and 20, while its result was announced on Monday.
Recall that the outgoing president of the association, Abubakar Mahmoud, had earlier postponed the date of the election from August 6, to allow for proper coordination of the process.
The chairman of the electoral committee, Auwalu Yadudu, announced the result of the election on Monday.
Ojukwu, a law professor, has condemned the result of the election, saying he “contested against corruption, massive vote buying, vote capture, rigging and a skewed process.”
The candidate, however, said in a statement that he would not contest the result of the elections.
