At least two persons have been confirmed dead and one injured after a train averted a collision with an abandoned commercial bus.
The incident occurred Friday morning at Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos Mainland.
It was gathered that the three victims were sitting atop the train when it veered upon sighting the bus from afar.
Witnesses said the deceased fell on the rail line and was shredded by the moving train, while the other two fell by the bus, losing some body parts.
The train was said to have continued its journey, oblivious of the casualties.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu, who was at the scene, said the wreckage of the bus had been removed.
According to him, the Agency received a distress call on Friday morning about 8.57 via the emergency toll-free number that a passenger train collided with a parked commercial bus forcing the three of the hanging passengers to fall off the moving train by crossing at Pen Cinema linking Iju Road.
The LASEMA GM confirmed that one adult sustained injuries and was transferred to LASUTH. However, two other adult male lost their lives and has been taken to a nearby mortuary by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit SHEMU.
The agency said other responders includes operatives of the Nigeria Police force (Railway police division), LASAMBUS, LASTMA, Civil Defence Corps, RRS, LASG Task force, LASG fire service ( AGEGE division), NAF, OPS MESA, and VIO.
Tiamiyu, however, advised that the overall safety measures must be put in place before boarding train. He also advised passengers to desist from hanging on moving trains to avoid unnecessary loss of lives in the state.
