Police IRT Team arrests 6 kidnappers ,rescue 76-year-old victim in Aba

Policemen have have arrested six kidnappers and rescued their victim.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, led by ACP Abba Kyari.

Items recovered from the kidnappers included two AK47 rifles, six magazines loaded with 180 rounds of live ammunition, all hidden in a special compartment constructed under the operational vehicle of the kidnappers.

The kidnappers were arrested in Abia State on Sunday in a follow up to the kidnapping of Elder Benjamin Okoye, 76, on December 15, 2017 and the subsequent demand of N80 million.

IRT operatives deployed by IGP Ibrahim Idris swung into action and eventually arrested two of the kidnappers in Aba town.

The operation was conducted in conjunction with Police personnel in Aba.

The kidnappers arrested took the policemen to their camp at Okpukwu Umuobo area of Aba town, where the three bedrooms house rented and used for keeping victims by the kidnappers was aaided and the ailing hypertensive victim was kept without his drugs.

Okay was rescued alive and four more kidnappers were arrested with bullet wounds inside the house as they attempted to escape.

Those arrested are Chinonye Anoro, 26; Prince Sylvester, 35, owner and driver of the operational bus used for eight kidnappings in Aba; and Kingsley Papa, 45.

Others are Ugbonabo Danjuma, 43, who is the gang leader; Moses Clever, 31; and Ogoro James, 26.

The suspects have all confessed to several kidnappings within Aba and other parts of Abia State.
