Senator Ali Wakili is dead

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Welfare, Ali Wakil, is dead.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, who until his demise represented Bauchi South in the National Assembly, reportedly passed on on Saturday morning after he slumped at his Gwarimpa District residence in Abuja.

Sources say he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in the district but gave up the ghost before he could get emergency treatment.

Wakil was among the ten Pro-Buhari senators who staged a walk out after the Senate adopted the report of the Conference Committee on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill last month.

Confirming the development on his Facebook page on Saturday, Senate President Bukola Saraki, noted that he was already on his way to the late senator’s house to console with his family.

“I was enroute to celebrate with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and family on their daughter’s wedding, when I heard about the passing of my friend and colleague, Senator Ali Wakili. I am now on my way to the Wakili house to pay my respects to his family.

“Inalilahi wa Ina Ilaehi Rajiun. It is the Almighty Allah (SWT) that gives life, and it his Him that takes it away. I pray that the Almighty Allah grants the dear departed Senator a place in Al Jannah Firdaus,” Saraki posted on his Facebook wall.

In line with parliamentary practice, the Senate is expected to adjourn plenary on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 in honour of the lawmaker.
