1.3 million candidates registered for 2024 SSCE — NECO

No fewer than 1,376,391 registered for the ongoing 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (internal) conducted by the National Examinations Council.

Prof. Dantani Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, made the announcement on Wednesday after overseeing the examination at various Enugu centres.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Azeez Sani, the NECO chief, Prof. Wushishi, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination in the centre, revealed that reports from throughout the country showed that the examination was proceeding well.

He attributed the success to the several safeguards put in place to ensure a smooth operation.

According to him, the prevalence of examination misconduct is decreasing as a result of the innovations implemented.

The registrar advised applicants to work hard in order to achieve a decent grade in the examination, emphasising that “there is no shortcut to success”.

He revealed that since the examination began, he has monitored the process in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra States to gather first-hand information on the conduct of the exam, which has 1,376,371 registered candidates.

According to him, critical stakeholders in all the visited states have praised NECO for the various measures implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2024 SSCE.

The Registrar also disclosed that the examination is being conducted in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Prof. Wushishi explained that the expansion of NECO examinations to other countries demonstrates the broad acceptance of NECO Certificates worldwide.

The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on June 19 and will conclude on July 25, 2024, with candidates expected to sit for exams in 76 subjects.
