Seven students from the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa State, who were kidnapped four days ago, have been set free.

The students were liberated on Sunday evening, thanks to the coordinated efforts of a combined team involving the military and various security forces.

Ibrahim Ogabo, the President of the Student Representative Council, confirmed this progress during a phone conversation with Channels Television.

At the time of reporting, the group of students, comprising three females and four males, were located at the school’s clinic.

The abduction took place on Wednesday night when the students were forcefully taken from their off-campus housing in Gandu village, sparking immediate protests from their fellow students.

The protesters insisted on the immediate release of their fellow students and urged for improved security measures in the area.

Gandu village, recognized as a major student center, is among six communities closely linked to the university grounds. It hosts more than 6,000 students, primarily those in the 300 to 500 levels, as the university doesn’t offer housing for them. Regrettably, Gandu has become a hotspot for criminal activities, encompassing kidnappings and robberies, impacting both students and local residents, as well as businesses.
