Adeleke, Basiru faceoff: Islamic leaders condemn politicians ‘unruly behaviour’ at Eid ground

A group of Islamic leaders in the South West region has strongly condemned the recent clash that took place at the Osogbo Eid prayer ground in Osun State.

The incident involved aides of Governor Ademola Adeleke and Dr. Ajibola Basiru, a former spokesperson of the Senate.

Speaking on behalf of the religious leaders, Sheikh Iskeel Awwal, the Wakeel Muslimeen for South West, Edo, and Delta states, warned politicians against turning places of worship such as the Eid prayer ground and mosque into political battlegrounds.

Sheikh Awwal emphasized the need for the governor and other politicians in the state to show respect towards religious leaders.

The clash at the Osogbo Eid praying ground reportedly stemmed from a dispute over seating arrangements between Bashiru and an aide of Adeleke.

Reacting to the development, the religious leaders in South West frowned at the clash in the house of God.

Wakeel Muslimeen in his statement admonished that Asiwaju Adeen of Yoruba land should be respected being a Muslim leader in Yoruba land and Nigeria.

He said, “All Muslims in South West condemn what happened in Osogbo. We condemned the clash at the Eid prayer ground. They should not take politics into the Eid prayer ground or mosque.

“Politicians should respect religious leaders and the religious leaders should respect political leaders.

“They should all fear Allah and know that Allah is above everybody, be it governor or senator.”
