Akpabio, Umahi, Dangote inaugurate reconstructed Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota expressway

The reconstructed Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway was inaugurated on Sunday after the competition of the project that started about six years ago.

Senate President, Godwill Akpabio represented President Bola Tinubu at the commissioning ceremony, with Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others also in attendance.

The Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway reconstruction was carried out by the Dangote Group in conjunction with the Federal Government.

Explaining why the project took so long to be completed, Dangote said the government initially gave the company only sections one to three of the road before realising that the section two that was built with asphalt was also bad. He said that they were only given the section two when they were almost done with the sections one and three.

The Chairman of Dangote Group said the occasion marked a significant step in the journey towards transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.

Dangote praised the quality of the road, recommending that the Federal Ministry of Works consider replacing Nigeria’s asphalt roads with concrete roads.

Speaking at the event, Umahi praised the construction company Hitech, saying that no other one can compete with them when it comes to concrete road construction.

He said that the work done by the Federal Government on the Third Mainland Bridge, another project for commissioning same day, was more that rehabilitation work.

Also speaking, the Senate President hailed the work done on the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway and the Third Mainland Bridge. He said it is a great feat by any standard.

After the commissioning of the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota, the Senate President and other government officials left to join President Tinubu in the flag off of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
