An unnamed man yesterday, suffered electrocution while purportedly trying to tamper with a transformer in the Amawbia community in Awka South Local Council of Anambra State.

A witness reported that the deceased and his accomplices arrived at the scene to vandalize electrical wire installations connected to a transformer located in front of a hotel, at which point the incident occurred.

A witness, who requested anonymity, said the suspect had exploited the four-day power outage that had affected the state capital to commit the crime.

According to him, the deceased was unfortunately electrocuted when the power was restored by EEDC at midnight while he was in the process of disconnecting the cables.

He said: “Luck ran out on one of them who was disconnecting the wires when EEDC suddenly restored power at about midnight, and he was electrocuted.

“Immediately his gang discovered that their colleague had been electrocuted, they fled with the wires they had already vandalized, and abandoned their colleague.

“His lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of yesterday.”
