Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidate for the November 11 Imo State Governorship Election.
This came after the PDP held its primary on Wednesday at its state secretariat along Okigwe Road in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Off-cycle governorship elections are scheduled for November 11, 2023 in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states.
According to the PDP’s State Organising Secretary, Lawrence Biado, the National Working Committee’s seven-man electoral panel, led by Kenneth Okon, is in Imo to monitor the primary.
However, a former Governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, was conspicuously absent. Ihedioha had weeks ago pulled out from the PDP governorship race.
Anyanwu is expected to challenge the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In January 2020, the Supreme Court sacked Ihedioha as the governor of Imo State after barely seven months in office.
