The Federal Government on Monday inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, tasking members with ensuring effective communication and transparent information dissemination ahead of the party’s key gathering.
At the inauguration, the Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Idris, described the convention as a major milestone for the ruling party. Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom, he said the event provides an opportunity to strengthen internal democracy and reinforce the party’s commitment to national development.
“As you are all aware, this convention is a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous, and progressive Nigeria,” Idris said.
He noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is implementing reforms to reposition the country for sustainable growth and long-term development, and added that the convention would showcase the party’s unity and discipline.
“As a party, the APC remains committed to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, and this forthcoming convention provides another opportunity to demonstrate our unity, discipline, and shared commitment to national progress,” he said.
Idris stressed the strategic role of the committee in shaping public understanding of the convention and its outcomes, noting that the success of any major political event depends heavily on effective communication.
He explained that the committee’s responsibilities extend beyond publicity to include accurate information dissemination, transparency, media coordination, and promoting the convention’s activities locally and internationally.
The committee’s specific duties include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other subcommittees, report writing, media monitoring and evaluation, and overall coordination of media activities for the convention.
Encouraging members to perform their roles diligently, Idris urged them to uphold professionalism and creativity in executing their tasks.
“I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered, while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.
Congratulating members on their appointments, the minister expressed confidence in their ability to ensure a successful convention.
“On behalf of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, I congratulate all members of this committee on your well-deserved appointment. I am confident that your collective experience and expertise will contribute greatly to the success of the 2026 APC National Convention,” he said, formally declaring the committee inaugurated.
The convention is scheduled for March 25-28, 2026. In December 2025, APC released a detailed schedule for its nationwide ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, culminating in the national convention. The activities, according to the timetable signed by APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, are aimed at electing party officials at all levels in line with Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution.
