Appeal Court sacks Elumelu, declares LP’s Okolie winner

On Thursday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned the decision of the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State.

The Labour Party’s candidate, Mr Ngozi Okolie, was declared the legitimately elected lawmaker by the court.

In February, Ngozi Okolie of the LP received 53,879 votes, defeating incumbent minority leader Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 33,456 votes, and Tony Nwaake of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 11, 712 votes.

However, in July, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State, pronounced Ndudi Elumelu of the PDP the winner of the constituency’s 2023 House of Representatives election.
