Anambra State First Lady, Nonye Soludo, has said a 10-year-old boy allegedly subjected to abuse by his guardians is making encouraging progress as he continues to receive medical treatment.

The child, identified as Chiziterem, was placed under state care after disturbing images and videos showing severe injuries and burns on his body sparked public outrage.

During a recent visit to the hospital where the boy is being treated, Soludo expressed satisfaction with his recovery and praised healthcare workers for their efforts.

“I paid another visit to young Chiziterem today to monitor his recovery and offer his family encouragement. I am delighted to see that he is making remarkable progress and is much stronger than when I last visited.

“His steady recovery is a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support and prayers from kind-hearted individuals.”

She assured residents that the state government would continue to support the child throughout his treatment and rehabilitation process.

“As promised, I will continue to keep a close watch on his wellbeing to ensure he receives the care and support he needs until he is fully recovered and reunited with his family.”

The First Lady also used the opportunity to call for greater vigilance against child abuse, urging members of the public to report suspected cases to relevant authorities.

“Every child deserves to be safe, protected, and given the opportunity to thrive. Let’s continue to speak up against child abuse and neglect wherever we see it. Call 112 or 5111 to report any emergency in Anambra State.”

The incident, which reportedly occurred in Awada, Obosi, drew widespread condemnation after evidence of the boy’s injuries surfaced online, prompting swift intervention from government agencies and child welfare advocates.

Soludo reiterated the need to protect children from violence and neglect, stressing that every child deserves care, safety and the opportunity to grow in a supportive environment.
