The Academic Staff Union of Universities refuted claims in the media (not by Newsclickng) that the union intended to boycott talks with the federal government.

This was refuted by Dr. Gbolahan Bolarin, the chairperson of ASUU at Federal University of Technology Minna and a member of the National Executive Council.

According to several sources cited in media reports, ASUU contemplated boycotting future negotiations with the government during its NEC meeting.

Gbolahan said, “We never said that, who are we going to negotiate with if not them?

“Nigerians should stop peddling falsehood and fake news in the name of being the first to break the news or to divide people of goodwill that meant well for our nation.”

According to reports, ASUU announced an indefinite strike on August 29, 2022, ending a six-month strike.
