Babajide Sanwo-Olu has scaled up his Hope for Digital Education initiative by providing smart learning devices and core textbooks to public secondary school students across Lagos.

The initiative reinforces the state’s position as a frontrunner in digital education nationwide.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Elias Olawale, the programme forms part of the third pillar of the governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which places strong emphasis on Education and Technology as drivers of a modern economy.

It also aligns with the National Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu, focusing on human capital development and academic excellence.

Speaking during the rollout, Sanwo-Olu said: “We are enabling access, opportunity, and a future where every child can learn, grow, and succeed.

“Through this balanced approach of technological innovation and foundational literacy, the Ministry continues to solidify Lagos State’s position as a benchmark for educational excellence in the Federation.”

Under the leadership of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the ministry has evolved the programme from a pandemic-era response into a structured, statewide reform.

“Our goal is to combine technological innovation with foundational literacy to ensure that Lagos students not only learn but thrive in the 21st century,” Alli-Balogun said.

The newly distributed Hope Digital Learning Tablets are integrated with Liv.ing data-enabled SIMs and the Roducate platform, delivering curriculum-based lessons, videos, mock exams, and life skills content.

When paired with simplified core textbooks, the model ensures uninterrupted access to quality education, strengthening classroom learning.

The initiative has already begun yielding results, with public secondary school students recording an 80% WAEC pass rate in 2021, and even better outcomes anticipated as the programme expands.

With more than 600,000 students expected to benefit, the initiative supports inclusive education while also rewarding students, teachers, and parents through performance-based incentives.

Through this blend of digital innovation and accessible learning materials, Lagos State continues to set a standard for educational excellence in Nigeria.
