National Police Day: Gombe state police command launches medical outreach, sanitation, other initiatives
The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Umar Chuso, has outlined a series of events to commemorate the 2026 National Police Day, stressing the importance of building trust between the police and the public.
National Police Day is an annual observance by the Nigeria Police Force aimed at showcasing police reforms, fostering community engagement, and acknowledging the contributions of officers to national security.
This year’s celebration is being coordinated under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who took office in February 2026 following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
The event usually includes community-focused initiatives such as sanitation drives, medical outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and welfare support for the families of fallen officers, reflecting the police’s dedication to public safety and accountability.
During a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on Friday, Chuso said the theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration for a safer society.
“National Police Day 2026 provides a valuable platform to strengthen the relationship between the police and the public, reinforcing our shared responsibility in building a safer society,” he noted.
Chuso explained that, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, the command has arranged several activities to encourage public engagement and raise safety awareness.
“The Gombe State Police Command has organised a series of events to commemorate National Police Day 2026 and highlight the importance of police-community partnership,” he added.
The celebrations will begin on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleaning exercise from the Central Roundabout to the Gombe Emir’s Palace, alongside a medical outreach at the palace.
On the following day, a walkathon will commence from the Police Command Headquarters.
“These activities are designed to foster public engagement, promote safety awareness, and enhance mutual trust,” Chuso stated.
He further disclosed that on April 1, public sensitisation programs will be held at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, addressing electoral violence, ballot snatching, and safe driving practices.
On April 2, the command will present cheques to families of deceased police officers at the Command Headquarters as part of welfare initiatives for personnel and their dependents.
The grand finale is scheduled for April 7 at the Eagle Square Parade Ground, Abuja, where the Inspector-General of Police is expected to host dignitaries and stakeholders.
Chuso urged residents and stakeholders to actively take part in the planned activities.
“I therefore call on members of the public, community leaders, stakeholders, and the media to actively participate in these events. Together, we can strengthen cooperation, deepen trust, and build a safer and more secure Gombe State,” he encouraged.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication, Chuso emphasized that the Gombe police remain committed to professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing.
“The Gombe State Police Command remains resolute in its dedication to professional, accountable, and community-oriented policing,” he concluded.
