At least nine people have been killed and nine others brutally injured by bandits who attacked Gindin Dutse Makyali village of Kufana district in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
While the police authorities in Kaduna State have yet to officially verify the incident, Moses Musa, a prominent member of the community, reported to Channels Television that the assault took place early on Sunday morning in a short distance to a military checkpoint.
As soon as the bandits entered the neighborhood around 5:00 a.m., while the inhabitants were still sleeping, they began firing erratically, according to him.
He revealed that a total of nine individuals perished in the flames within their chambers, with nine others sustaining injuries of differing severity due to fire burns.
Additionally, the community leader revealed that fourteen houses were set on fire by the outlaws during the several-hour-long assault, which the military stationed in the area failed to repel.
Unmanned bandit assaults in the North-West, particularly in the state of Kaduna, have increased in frequency over the past few weeks.
The Sunday attack in Kajuru is coming after another reported attack in the same LGA by bandits which killed at least six persons including a former Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and his younger brother in Kwassam and Sabon Layin communities.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Josiah Abraks, the bandits attacked the Kwassam community on Friday night.
He also said that 50 people were kidnapped by the bandits in another attack at Sabon Layin village at the same time.
Abraks called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to step up action against the bandits who are constantly terrorising communities in Southern Kaduna.
