The senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that falsely depicts her endorsing a fraudulent investment scheme.
The lawmaker issued a public warning on Sunday, describing the footage as manipulated and misleading content created by scammers to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement posted on her verified social media page, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that the video was doctored from an earlier interview she granted to television journalist Seun Okinbaloye. According to her, criminals altered the footage to promote a fake investment platform.
“Although the manipulated clip appears to feature my voice and image, it is entirely fabricated and should not be trusted,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating video and avoid engaging with any investment opportunity associated with the altered content.
She also called on the public to report any page or platform hosting the video so it can be taken down to prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
The Kogi Central senator stressed the growing threat posed by digital fraud and advised citizens to remain cautious when interacting online.
“Please stay vigilant, stay safe, and be guarded against online scams,” she added.
Her warning comes amid a rise in cyber fraud and identity manipulation involving public figures, with criminals increasingly using edited videos and artificial intelligence tools to make fraudulent schemes appear credible.
