The House of Representatives says bribery claims by Binance official Tigran Gambaryan were directed at certain members, not the institution itself.
Gambaryan alleged that some lawmakers demanded a $150 million bribe during the dispute between Binance and the Federal Government—a claim dismissed by Nigerian authorities.
In a statement on Saturday, House spokesman Akin Rotimi Jr. clarified that the accusations were against individuals, not the legislative body.
“The Honourable Members named have assured the House Leadership that they never had any such dealings as reported. One of the members has already taken legal action, while others have been encouraged to do the same to protect their reputations,” the statement read.
The House noted that since both the US and Nigerian governments are involved, the issue has become a “government-to-government engagement.” It further stated that Nigeria has prioritised national interest over commercial pressure, including rejecting financial settlement offers from Binance.
“These facts raise serious questions about the credibility and intent of the allegations being peddled,” the House added.
Since the matter is now in court and part of ongoing diplomatic discussions, the House said it would refrain from further comment in line with parliamentary and judicial principles.
It urged the public to rely on verified facts and avoid misleading claims aimed at discrediting Nigerian institutions.
